Now I love the book of Ruth, it’s hard to resist a good love story. But I love the way Boaz portrays CHRIST in this book. Boaz is the redeemer kinsmen as CHRIST is ours. Ruth, the gentile bride becomes the bride of Boaz but first she comes through the Jewish people by way of her mother-in-law Naomi. The same is for the gentiles, CHRIST first comes through the Israelites and then to the gentiles. Sadly we see Orpah, the other daughter-in-law of Ruth leave Naomi to return to her pagan ways, but not before she kisses Naomi on the cheek, totally symbolic of Judas who rejects CHRIST with a kiss on the cheek. Again Ruth lays at Boaz’ feet at the threshing floor–symbolic again for CHRIST WHO separates the wheat from the chaff. Boaz comes from Bethlehem once again a nice tie-in to JESUS born in Bethlehem. Ruth prepares herself with perfume/anointing oil and she cleans up and puts on her best clothes to give herself to Boaz. What does that remind you of? Okay if you guessed the Bride of CHRIST getting a full “oil” lamp and robe without spot or wrinkle you got it right. And of course Ruth’s child is in the direct linage of King David. And so it is a marvelous portrayal of JESUS…
