Right now, there is an enormous danger in being SHORTSIGHTED not just as a Christian but in general. People are easily distracted by the enemy, and he is a mastermind of making sure everyone is not paying attention. Here are some areas that the enemy wants to make sure you are “shortsighted”:
FOCUS: The enemy wants your focus to be strictly on your worldly plans and not divine plans of GOD. You know there is a difference. Worldly people are quick to judge those who are eternally focused as if they are sitting on mountains waiting for the LORD to return and not focused on reality. Well actually if someone is surrendered fully to the WILL of the FATHER through the salvation of JESUS CHRIST, then everything changes. You are no longer focused on your own worldly plans; you have crossed into a life in which the HOLY SPIRIT comes into your life FULLY and HIS FOCUS will become your FOCUS. So, your whole “shortsighted” perspective changes from worldly plans to GODLY plans. You are not your own anymore and the worldly goals will most definitely take a major back seat to where you are going and what you are doing going forward. For example, you may offload hobbies and habits you used to have in exchange for time spent with GOD in the Bible and “relationship” with JESUS. But you won’t be able to successfully run a worldly life and a spiritual life simultaneously, so choices MUST be made and no choice is a choice against GOD.
EVIL: The enemy wants the worldly to think all is well and “things just aren’t that bad.” No reason to be ready for JESUS’ return or for any other reason that would cause you to be facing GOD unexpectedly. The Bible says people are so SHORTSIGHTED that they have scales on their eyes just as Paul had scales on his eyes when he found JESUS on the road to Damascus and scales fell off his eyes. Why does GOD make reference to scales? Paul had a religious spirit big time, and when JESUS addressed the Pharisees, HE referred to them as “vipers” and when snakes shed their skins scales cover their eyes, and they can’t see and they will strike at anything or anyone. In Revelation Chapter Three the scripture says that people need eye salve from the HOLY SPIRIT to see. The Bible says people are under a literal spell, called a strong delusion, if they are unable to see the things of GOD. Right now, GOD wants us focused on HIS return because without scales on your eyes you can see things are evil and gross. Not only that, BUT the HOLY SPIRIT will ALSO teach you just how holy GOD is and how far mankind has gotten from HIM.
Consider this: if you see that the evil in the world is gross and vile—imagine that GOD SEES EVERYTHING MEN DO BEHIND CLOSED DOORS—things you don’t even know about. Not only that, BUT GOD ALSO KNOWS the HEARTS of ALL MEN and the vile thoughts that they have in their minds. The evil thought-life of men will put them in hell without the salvation of JESUS and their re-commitment to the Will of GOD. The Bible says if you so much as look at someone lustfully you have already committed adultery with them in your heart. Satan banks on people being caught up in the world apart from the POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT to pull them free of the chains that the enemy binds them in.
WORLDLY: If people refuse to walk away from the chains of the world toward CHRIST, not only will they maintain scales on the eyes of their hearts and continue in a strong delusion, GOD says HE will take what little they have away from them. This is a frightening concept that even the little light you have coming into your heart could be snuffed out because of straight up stubbornness to GOD’s calling for you to WAKE UP. Not only will you deny the hour of evil you are living in, but you are also in danger of being lost for eternity because you walk in total SPIRITUAL darkness. Satan’s goal is to coerce everyone to “do as they will” and not as “GOD WILLS”—that is his goal, and the name of the theme park he runs. If you continue down his rabbit hole of following your own way, it will be a way of destruction.
ETERNITY: The enemy wants you to downplay eternity. He wants you to not “get it.” He wants you focused on the here and now and not looking out into the future of eternity. He is all about distraction and uses your personal life goals to keep you distracted. You think: “but I’m going to college, getting married, going on vacation, getting a new job, getting a business, planning retirement, buying a house, and on and on….” “If I get these “shortsighted” goals taken care of first….” Satan doesn’t want you thinking about the fact that you are an ETERNAL BEING. You have an eternal existence, but if you are caught up in your shortsighted focus, you won’t think about where you will be for eternity. MOST people never contemplate such things and that’s just how Satan likes it. Why worry about that when you have a wedding to plan? Well, the unfortunate part of that is NO ONE HAS A TRUE GRASP ON TOMORROW. JESUS could come back today, or you could face HIM today for any number of reasons.
GOAL: Our entire life will be summed up in a single moment when we stand before the LORD to give an account of our life (and every one of us will do this no matter who we are in this life). So, most people think about the ETERNAL LIFE GOAL as heaven or hell or something else. But the fact is the GOAL is really not just either—it is a PERSON, the PERSON who JESUS CHRIST. Our destination AFTER this LIFE is either WITH JESUS in Heaven or WITHOUT JESUS in hell. The goal of GOD for our life is not just the pursuit of Heaven; it is the pursuit of the PERSON CHRIST. This is why we were created; it’s our purpose. Satan wants us to trash this purpose and get our focus on anything but JESUS as our DESTINY. So, will you fall for your enemy’s SHORTSIGHTED plans or come apart from the world and surrender to the ETERNAL Plans and Will of the FATHER through JESUS CHRIST?
