Sometimes, I get a regular reminder from the HOLY SPIRIT that I need to do something and writing this article was one of those things. I want to write about a personal pet peeve of mine and it has to do with DELIVERANCE MINISTRY. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of deliverance, in fact a large portion of JESUS’ teachings involved deliverance, whether the lukewarm church likes it or not. But the thing that I have come to notice is how many people talk about deliverance, including everything from movie versions to Tik Tok and on and on…. And a lot of Christians even think they need to find out all the names of the demons and what they’re about. BUT I want to talk about something I almost never hear talked about in deliverance ministry discussions…. You almost never hear about detailed conversations about INTIMACY WITH GOD. What does it mean to get REALLY CLOSE TO GOD? Intimacy with GOD has got to be FIRST PRIORITY before you go out and start taking on devils:
Ephesians 6:12 · “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” This verse highlights the nature of the Christian battle, emphasizing that it is not against human adversaries but against spiritual entities that wield influence over the world.
So many times, when I see people talking about deliverance I wonder if they have ever talked about intimacy with GOD to people before. Remember this scripture: Acts 19:14-16: Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. Eventually, one of the evil spirits answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” Then the man with the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. The attack was so violent that they ran out of the house naked and wounded.
I mean you have to walk really close to the LORD before you get involved in some of this because demons transfer easily to other people after deliverance, evil spirits will sacrifice each other to keep the strong man spirit untouched, and on and on…. I have personally witnessed the power of the demonic to do supernatural feats when a human being is possessed. Intimacy has got to be JOB ONE when it comes to deliverance.
Consider this passage: Matthew 7:21-23: Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’
The people here in this section of the Bible, were casting out demons in the name of the LORD, but at the end of the day, they were in big trouble with GOD. How big? Big enough to miss it all when JESUS says to depart from HIM for eternity. What’s the point if you are doing deliverance but miss heaven? What was the key here? The people DIDN’T KNOW JESUS—HE declared to them: I NEVER KNEW YOU. HE’s saying there was NO INTIMACY—THEY HAD LOST THEIR FIRST LOVE (Revelation Chapter 2).
I hear a ton of people talking about deliverance here there and everywhere, but talk of the INTIMACY with GOD is side-lined, even downplayed. Back to this scripture again: Matthew 7:21-23: Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. We see here that one of the keys is a FAILURE TO BE IN THE WILL OF THE FATHER. How many churches and deliverance ministries talk about this—everyone talks about being SAVED by JESUS, but miss one of the KEY points of why JESUS went to the cross—to give back the ability of men to SURRENDER their cursed wills and come back to the WILL of the FATHER which can ONLY be accomplished through JESUS CHRIST and HIS sacrifice.
Luke 10:20 says: Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. Once again, we see proof that the priority here is INTIMACY and then deliverance ministry is a natural off shoot.
The churches have ignored the fact that JESUS’ ministry had a substantial focus on deliverance, but today’s deliverance ministries are spending way more time analyzing the inner workings of the demonic realm and totally disregarding the importance of focusing on Intimacy ministry.
